The United Way of South Texas Board of Directors announced Lilly Lopez-Killelea as the next Chief Professional Officer (CPO) of United Way of South Texas at the organization’s Annual Awards Ceremony on February 27. Lopez-Killelea will fill the CPO position once Thelma M. Garza retires, effective March 29.
Lopez-Killelea is a native of the Valley with over 25 years of experience at United Way of South Texas. She has served as Vice President and Resource Development Director of the organization for the majority of her professional career at United Way. Among the various accomplishments of fundraising, Lopez-Killelea has strengthened corporate partnerships, developed United Way’s volunteer base and has led efforts to maximize resources in all critical areas of the organization. Furthermore, Lopez-Killelea developed one of the most efficient and impactful Combined Federal Campaigns in the United States, which resulted in national recognition for several years.
Lopez-Killelea’s strengths include building meaningful relationships that solidify United Way’s brand and footprint in the community; planning, budgeting and executing special events; understanding United Way’s partner agencies; and advocating for the best interest of the residents of Hidalgo and Starr Counties. She has a strong work ethic and excellent bilingual communication and presentation skills. During her career at United Way, Lopez-Killelea has completed thousands of employee workplace presentations while also managing a 2,000 presentation schedule annually for United Way’s Campaign. Most importantly, Lopez-Killelea is passionate about United Way’s mission and the 100+ programs that the organization funds.
