EDINBURG, Texas – November 1, 2019, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Human Resources Management, in partnership with U.S. Border Patrol, implemented changes to the entry-level Border Patrol Agent position. These innovative changes support the CBP’s strategic commitment to hiring and retaining a world-class workforce.
As of November 1, 2019, GL-7 is now the lowest entry-level grade for Border Patrol Agents. It increases the Border Patrol’s competiveness by providing candidates the opportunity to qualify at a higher grade from the previous GL-5 entry-level grade. This new entry-level position will enhance Border Patrol’s recruiting and hiring efforts.
