MARFA, Texas — Big Bend Sector Chief Patrol Agent Lloyd Easterling administered the oath of office to Texas National Guard soldiers at the Alpine Border Patrol Station, granting them Title 8 authority in a ceremony on Monday.
The newly deputized Texas National Guard soldiers are now empowered to enforce federal immigration laws. This enhanced authority allows these soldiers to arrest individuals for immigration related offenses under the direction and supervision of a U.S. Border Patrol agent.
Upon taking the oath of office, the soldiers now have the authority to apprehend and detain individuals who unlawfully cross the border—expanding their role beyond intelligence gathering, observation and logistical support.

One that plays a vital role in securing our communities and protecting our fellow Americans—whether overseas or right here at our borders,” said Chief Patrol Agent Lloyd Easterling. “I appreciate your dedication to this mission and we look forward to continuing our mission alongside you.”
By assuming a greater role in immigration enforcement, these National Guard soldiers provide critical support to Border Patrol’s mission, reinforcing the security of the Big Bend Sector and upholding the integrity of our nation’s borders.
