Knights of Columbus from Texas and Mexico delivered supplies to a center in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, that serves migrants in need, helping to surpass a goal set by the Knights at their international convention in August.
Over $50,000 worth of supplies, including clothing, food, water, and medicine, arrived at San Juan Diego and San Francisco of Asis Migrant’s house, a home for migrants and refugees, which is operated by the Catholic Diocese of Matamoros.
The Knights have spent approximately $272,000 since August to help meet the humanitarian needs of individuals at the border, exceeding the $150,000 commitment made earlier this year.
Over 20 volunteers were joined and blessed by Bishop Daniel Flores of the Diocese of Brownsville, and Matamoros Bishop Eugenio Lira. Fr. Francisco Gallardo, the Director of the center thanked the volunteers for their kindness, generosity, and prayers.
Last month, the Knights delivered supplies to centers in Piedras Negras and Juarez, Mexico as part of their commitment to humanitarian needs at the border.
The Knights of Columbus is a fraternity of Catholic men committed to building a bridge back to faith, assisting the sick and disabled, and protecting those who can’t protect themselves.
