U-Haul Used to Smuggle 13 Illegal Aliens

EDINBURG, Texas – On Tuesday, Rio Grande Valley Sector (RGV) Border Patrol agents interdicted a human smuggling attempt at the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint and discovered a human smuggling stash house in Roma, Texas. 

Early yesterday morning, Falfurrias Border Patrol agents apprehended 13 illegal aliens concealed in the cargo area of a U-Haul truck at the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint. The vehicle was referred to secondary inspection following the immigration inspection of the driver. During secondary inspection, agents discovered multiple people hidden inside furniture and household appliances within the cargo area.The vehicle’s cargo door was secured with a latch which denied the individuals the ability to exit freely.  Agents identified the subjects as nationals of various Central American countries, all determined to be illegally present in the United States.  The driver and subjects were taken into Border Patrol custody and processed accordingly.

Yesterday afternoon, RGV agents, with assistance of deputies from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Officeencountered seven illegal aliens at a stash house in Roma, Texas.  The seven subjects claimed to be citizens of Honduras and Guatemala, all illegally present in the United States.  There were no smugglers identified at the time of encounter. All subjects were taken into Border Patrol custody and processed accordingly.
