TxDOT Seeks Public Input on Proposed FM 88 Widening Project, Feb. 20th

Proposed project would widen Farm-to-Market (FM) 88, between FM 1925 and 5th Avenue (Arcadio Padilla Service Road)

EDCOUCH/ELSA – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will host a virtual public meeting with an in-person option to discuss and gather input on a proposal to widen and reconstruct Farm-to-Market (FM) 88 from FM 1925 (East Monte Cristo Road) to 5th Avenue (Arcadio Padilla Service Road), in the City of Elsa.

The proposed project would widen FM 88 to four-lanes with a center two-way left-turn lane and pedestrian accommodations. The proposed FM 88 roadway facility would consist of two 12-foot-wide travel lanes in each direction, one 14-foot-wide center two-way left-turn lane, and 6 to 9-foot-wide shoulders with curb on each side of the roadway. The proposed roadway would also include a 5 to 6-foot-wide sidewalk along the western side of the roadway and an 8 to10-foot-wide shared use path along the eastern side of the roadway.

The virtual public meeting will be available starting Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2025, at www.txdot.gov, by entering the keyword “FM 88 Widening Project.” There will also be an in-person option:

The in-person public meeting will be held in an open house format and representatives from TxDOT and project team members will be available to answer questions. Displays and exhibits will be available for viewing both in person and online along with a pre-recorded presentation in English and Spanish. The information presented in the virtual public meeting and in-person open house location are identical, and the opportunities to comment do not differ.

Written comments from the public regarding the proposed project are requested and may be submitted by mail to the TxDOT Pharr District Office, ATTN: Kayla Espinoza, 600 W. Interstate 2, Pharr, Texas 78577. Written comments may also be submitted by email to kayla.espinoza@txdot.gov. All comments must be received on or before Friday, March 7, 2025. Responses to comments received will be available online at https://www.txdot.gov/ and search “FM 88 Widening Project” once they have been prepared.
