PHARR – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is hosting a public information workshop for the South Padre Island Second Access Project. At the workshop, TxDOT will share information on the project history and environmental studies currently underway, as well as show potential alternative connections from the Texas mainland to South Padre Island. No formal presentation is planned. Community members are invited to come and go at their convenience.

An environmental study is currently underway to explore alternate connections from the Texas mainland, across the Laguna Madre, to South Padre Island. The purpose of this project is to improve mobility and enhance public safety related to access to and from South Padre Island during an emergency evacuation.
A virtual option will be available on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025, by 5 p.m. To view the materials, go to TxDOT.gov and search keyword “South Padre Island Second Access”. These materials will consist of information display boards and maps shown at the in-person workshop and opportunities to provide feedback. The information will remain available for viewing throughout the study.

The in-person information community workshop will be held on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. at South Padre Island Convention Center, 7355 Padre Blvd. South Padre Island, TX 78597. Displays will be available for viewing beginning at 5 p.m. A formal presentation is not planned for this workshop, and community members are invited to come and go at their convenience. In-person and virtual attendees will be able to view the same information and will have the opportunity to leave comments.
