Tropical Storm Francine recently left her mark on Cameron County, primarily affecting the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) with severe weather, heavy rainfall, strong winds, and extensive damage. As the storm passed through, it created widespread issues, including potholes and clogged drains throughout the area.
TxDOT crews have been actively working in San Benito, particularly at FM 106 and FM 1595, to repair storm-damaged roads. Potholes caused by Francine’s downpour have been a significant driver issue, and repair work is underway. Local authorities are urging motorists to move over and slow down to protect the workers repairing the roadways. These safety precautions are crucial to avoid accidents and ensure the smooth continuation of repairs.
In addition to road maintenance, TxDOT crews are busy unclogging storm drains along major highways. The heavy storm runoff carried debris, grass clippings, and trash, which blocked drains and increased the risk of localized flooding.
Clearing these drains is vital to prevent further water damage, particularly with the ongoing storm season.
The storm has also disrupted the region’s power infrastructure, with strong winds knocking down power lines across several cities, including San Benito. At the height of the storm, power outages affected thousands of residents, though power is gradually being restored.
As the recovery efforts continue, TxDOT workers focus on short-term emergency repairs and long-term solutions to improve stormwater management in the region.
Be sure to stay updated with local authorities for road safety advisories and avoid flooded or damaged areas where crews work.
