EDINBURG – Ten Region One area students have been named recipients of the Region One ESC Texas Energy Center Scholarship. PSJA High School’s Salutatorian Andrea Gallardo and PSJA Thomas Jefferson T-STEM Early College High School’s Valedictorian Jennifer Gonzalez were awarded $1,000 to assist them at the university level.
This is the seventh consecutive year, the Region One ESC energy cooperative, Texas Energy Center and Van Brunt and Associates award ten graduating seniors a $1,000 scholarship to assist them in their pursuit of a four-year degree at a university or college.
Of the 94 applications received, a select committee chose 10 based on the applicant’s academic achievement, community participation, and a written essay on energy and their school district.
The 2013 scholarship winners are: Rhaudell Cordova, Mission High School, Mission CISD; Andrea Gallardo, PSJA High School, PSJA ISD; Alyssa Gonzalez, Edinburg High School, Edinburg CISD, Jennifer Gonzalez, PSJA Thomas Jefferson T-STEM Early College High School, PSJA ISD; Laurence Gonzalez, Edinburg North High School, Edinburg CISD; David Hinojosa II, Zapata High School, Zapata County ISD; Lisa Lozano, Mission Veterans Memorial High School, Mission CISD; Andres Morales, The Science Academy of South Texas; South Texas ISD; Sabrina Reyna, La Joya Juarez-Lincoln High School, La Joya ISD; and Guadalupe Salinas, La Joya Juarez-Lincoln High School, La Joya ISD.
