Two people in Hidalgo County with underlying medical conditions died after testing positive for COVID-19, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said Wednesday. One was a male in his 50s from Edinburg. The other was a female from Palmview in her 70s. That brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the county to 10.
“Having one-person die is tragic enough,” Judge Cortez said. “Having two people die on the same day only compounds that tragedy. My condolences go out to the family and friends of these two people.”
The deaths occurred on the same day that six others in Hidalgo County learned that they tested positive for this strain of coronavirus. That brings the total number of people in Hidalgo County known to have been infected with this disease to 409.
Fifteen people have been hospitalized after testing positive for the disease; three are in intensive care units. Two others were released from isolation for a total of 235 no longer in isolationmeaning the active number of cases in Hidalgo County is 164.
