Two more die from COVID-19 complications; 157 more test positive for the virus

EDINBURG – More than a week after the 4th of July holiday, COVID-19 cases continue to rise as two people died due to complications from virus today, bringing the total number of fatalities to 152, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said Monday.

The deaths included a Female, 70+, from Weslaco and a Female, 70+, from Pharr.

Health ofZicials reported 157 new people have now tested positive for the virus, bringing the total number of known positive cases to 8,197. Today’s numbers do not reZlect recent tests administered at various military testing sites. As of today, 840 people have been hospitalized with complications from the disease, with 223 of those in intensive care units.

“Military data shows that we can expect even higher numbers tomorrow. If we do
not sacriZice ourselves to take control of the virus, the virus will take control of us,” urged Judge Cortez. “My prayers and condolences go out to the families of all those who have lost their battle with this virus.”

A total of 363 people were released from isolation today meaning that they have been symptom-free for 10 days, including three days without a fever. Currently, there are 4,666 net active cases and 906 test results pending.
