EDINBURG – Twenty-two residents have died today due to complications related to COVID-19, while 1,248 learned they have tested positive for the virus, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said Thursday. This brings the total number of positive cases to 10,492.

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of 22 people from our community. My prayers and condolences go out to the families and friends of these individuals,” said Cortez. “To those currently battling this disease and who are at home, I urge you to remain quarantined so that you may not infect a loved one or anyone in our community.”

The sharp increase in positive cases is due to the release of test results from the federal testing at Bert Ogden Arena. Health officials say that over the next several days a large number of positive results are expected to come from that testing site.
