BROWNSVILLE, Texas – In the spirit of collaboration and with a common goal to expand the region’s educational opportunities and economic development, Texas Southmost College welcomed new Texas A&M-Kingsville President Mark Hussey for a campus visit on July 29, 2019.

TSC President Jesús Roberto Rodríguez met with Dr. Hussey during his visit to explore new areas of collaboration between both institutions of higher education to benefit the region.

“We’re introducing Dr. Hussey to the programs TSC offers as a comprehensive community college, including our core curriculum classes, certificate and associate degree programs, workforce training, and our Academy of Lifelong Learning courses,” said Dr. Rodríguez. “We also talked about how talented the students of the Lower Rio Grande Valley are.”

Dr. Hussey, now six months into his presidency at TAMUK, said he was visiting the TSC campus to explore where the institutions could expand partnerships, focusing in on the unique programs that would benefit students.

“I believe the future of the Rio Grande Valley and the Gulf Coast is dependent on the ability of people to come back to college and come back to the region to participate in the economic development of our communities,” Dr. Hussey said.

Dr. Rodríguez and Dr. Hussey agreed to strengthen the higher education ecosystem of South Texas as well as the relationship between the institutions.
