PHARR, Texas – As the United States approaches the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, America250, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley will welcome a JustServe-branded semi-truck carrying approximately 40,000 pounds of Church-donated food for families in need across South Texas.
The delivery on Wednesday, April 22nd 2026 at 10:00am is part of a national collaboration kicked off in November 2025, in which 250 truckloads of food will be donated to communities in all 50 states.
Through America250’s America Gives initiative and the Church’s JustServe platform, volunteers, local leaders, and community organizations are coming together to put service into action.
A Group of JustServe volunteers will serve at Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley immediately following the truck arrival, repackaging bulk food into individual portions to be distributed.
JustServe is a community service platform sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that connects volunteers with local service opportunities. Its purpose is to help individuals and organizations strengthen their communities by serving together.
“We see every day how rising costs are putting pressure on families across the Rio Grande Valley,” said Libby A. Saenz, CEO of the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley. “Support like this helps ensure our neighbors have access to the food they need during dif?icult times. We are grateful for this partnership and for the volunteers who will help turn this generosity into meals for families, children, seniors, and Veterans across our community.”
The Church is using its established infrastructure, volunteer network, and humanitarian food resources to help bring America250 into neighborhoods like those throughout the Rio Grande Valley, turning a national commemoration into local service.
The 250 deliveries will provide approximately 10 million meals to families in need across the United States as part of the America Gives initiative. Americans are invited to help make 2026 a record-setting year for volunteer service. Join the initiative and find volunteer opportunities at JustServe.org.
