BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Starting Monday, October 14, all overweight trucks weighing over 80,000 pounds will be detoured around the ongoing construction on State Highway 4 (International Boulevard), in Brownsville, between I-69E and State Highway 48 (Boca Chica Boulevard).
The detour route is being put in place to enhance safety on this stretch of roadway, which is currently reduced to one lane in each direction for construction. Crews are replacing the asphalt pavement with concrete pavement and upgrading the storm sewer system.
A guided detour route will redirect overweight trucks to FM 511 throughout construction, which is expected to be completed in March of 2026.
Law enforcement officers will be present to ensure compliance with the detour.
