PHARR – DPJV will be permanently closing the entrance ramp just east of Jackson Avenue on westbound I-2 and the Jackson Avenue and McColl Road turnaround lanes from westbound I-2 in McAllen. Long-term lane reductions will also be put in place on the westbound I-2 frontage road between Jackson Road and Jackson Avenue. The Nebraska Street turnaround lane from eastbound I-2 in San Juan will also be permanently closed for upcoming construction activities.Â
Various nightly closures will be in effect in preparation for the permanent closures and other construction activities related to the I-2 / I-69C Interchange Project. A detailed listing of closures is included below.
Overnight, Monday, April 5, 2021 from 8:00 p.m. to Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 5:00 a.m.
▪ Lane closures will occur on the I-2 eastbound frontage road between Oblate Drive and Iowa Avenue in San Juan.
▪ Traffic will be intermittently slowed on the I-2 westbound frontage road between U.S. Business 83 and 2nd Street in McAllen. Traffic on the entrance and exit ramps in the area will also be affected while operations are in progress.
Nightly, Monday, April 5, 2021 through Wednesday, April 7, 2021 from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
▪ The direct connector from westbound I-2 to northbound I-69C will be temporarily closed. Motorists will need to utilize the Veterans Boulevard exit ramp (147A) and take the I-2 westbound frontage road to head north on I-69C. Traffic signs will be in place to direct motorists.
▪ Single-lane closures and mobile operations to slow traffic will take place on the I-69C southbound and northbound main lanes between Sioux Road and SH495. Crews will be working to adjust overhead signs.
Nightly, Monday, April 2, 2021 through Thursday, April 8, 2021
▪ The I-2 westbound frontage road will be fully closed between Cage Boulevard and Sugar Road in Pharr for the construction of a column. The closure schedule will be as follows:Â
- o Monday, April 5, 2021 from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. the following morning
- o Wednesday, April 7, 2021 from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.
- o Wednesday, April 7, 2021 from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. the following morning
Detour signs will be in place to direct traffic.
Nightly, Monday, April 5, 2021 through Friday, April 9, 2021 from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
▪ Various closures will take place on the I-2 eastbound and westbound frontage roads between 2nd Street and U.S. Business 83 in McAllen. The entrance and exit ramps in the area will also experience intermittent nightly closures.
▪ Mobile operations to slow traffic will take place throughout the entire project corridor for debris pickup and street sweeping operations. Traffic on the entrance ramps in the area will also be momentarily slowed while operations are in progress.
All work is weather permitting.
Drivers are reminded to stay alert and slowdown in roadwork zones, to be aware of lane closures and alternate routes, and to follow all traffic control updates.
