Toros Re-Sign Defender Carter Manley

EDINBURG, Texas – The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros announced today the re-signing of defender Carter Manley for the 2021 USL Championship season, pending league and federation approval. 

“We are proud to bring Carter for another season with the Toros,” said Wilmer Cabrera, Toros Head Coach and Sporting Director. “He was an important player last season and we are sure this year he will continue to perform and grow in all aspects of the game.”

The right back played a key role in the back line for the Toros during the 2020 campaign. Manley started in 13 matches for RGV FC and contributed two assists and six key passes in a total of 1,147 minutes of action. The 24-year-old also totaled 39 clearances, five blocks and 22 interceptions and had a 54.4 percent duel success rate defensively.

In 2019 Manley started in 20 games for USL League One club Forward Madison FC on loan from Major League Soccer’s Minnesota United FC. With Madison, Manley completed 478 of 616 passes – a 77.6 percent accuracy rate, and also notched one goal and 15 key passes in 1,774 minutes of action. Defensively for the Flamingos, Manley totaled 29 clearances, 22 interceptions and five blocks while having a 53.9 percent duel success rate.

During the 2018 campaign, Manley made eight appearances for the USL Championship’s Las Vegas Lights FC, again on loan from Minnesota United FC. The Maryland native totaled 13 clearances, 12 interceptions and a lone block and also registered a 67.9 percent passing accuracy rate. 

Manley brings two years of MLS experience to the Toros after beginning his professional career with Minnesota United FC. The defender was selected with the 23rd pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft and finished with nine appearances for the Loons. The defender made 52 starts in 58 appearances over four years at Duke University, primarily at outside back.
