EDINBURG, Texas (July 20, 2020) – Rio Grande Valley FC is headed for a two-game road trip and it’s first stop is against OKC Energy FC. The matchup is set for Wednesday, July 22 at 7:00 p.m. CT and will be broadcasted nationally on ESPN+.
Here are your three key points:
- Since the restart of the season, the Toros have not been able to come out with three points. The club ranks fifth in Group D with one point and a 0-2-1 record. With group stage formats, every game matters – as every point is crucial in order to qualify for playoffs. The frontline for RGV FC has not been able to find a way to finish off matches. Brazilian native, Taiberson Nunes was able to capitalize in an opportunity during stoppage time in the second half against San Antonio FC as he managed to equalize for the Toros. Taiberson was a constant threat throughout the matchup and needs to be able to bring that energy and momentum on the road.
- As the frontline continues to create opportunities, the defensive end for the Toros have not been able to click. With young talent on the pitch and new players that have been added to the roster, RGV FC has suffered in the backline allowing goals in. SAFC earned an early lead on Sunday night as Cristian Parano split the backline giving him an opportunity to score. With the short turnaround, RGV FC needs to be able to make adjustments in order to prevent the Energy’s attacking force to score.
- Although both teams have not met this 2020 season, OKC Energy is looking to earn three points at home in front of their fans. OKC leads Group D with four points and a 1-1-1 record. The Energy will enter the matchup with a 3-1 win over Austin Bold on the road. Winning on the road is always difficult for any team, so their motivation will be high at home. The Toros need to be able to contain forward Jaime Chavez as he has recorded two goals and one assist as OKC was able to earn four points this past week.
