Family Living with ALS Attend for Support
McALLEN –McAllen City Commissioners want to raise awareness and funds for the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) organization by taking on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Mayor Pro Tem/Commissioner Hilda Salinas, Mayor Pro Tem/Commissioner Aida Ramirez and Commissioner Veronica Vela Whitacre will take on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 1:30 pm at the McAllen Public Library in front of the fountain. They each will nominate three people to take the challenge on Friday, August 22, 2014 at 5 p.m. at McAllen Sports Park (formerly De Leon Soccer Complex).
The Texas Chapter of ALS in Irving, Texas will provide a local family with ALS to provide information about the disease and their efforts in educating and raising awareness about ALS for research and a cure. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.
