The City of McAllen and Quinta Mazatlán will be planting the 7th tiny forest, with the help of one dedicated family, Eric and Chelsea Chang. The Chang family will be honored for their dedication and vision of building a better tomorrow for future generations. Colleen Hook, Executive Director of Quinta Mazatlán, says, “We are not just planting trees, we are planting an ecosystem.

Over time, it will become a dense, self-sustaining forest that provides food and shelter for wildlife, cleans our air, and beautifies our city.” The Tiny Forest method, pioneered by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki, allows urban forests to grow rapidly maturing in 20–30 years instead of the 200–300 years typical of conventional forests.
