Texas Border Business
PHARR – Teams from Kelly-Pharr Elementary, Carman Elementary and PSJA High School competed at the Texas State DI Tournament held April 12 in Pflugerville, with Kelly-Pharr and PSJA HS advancing to Globals.
The teams from Kelly-Pharr Elementary and PSJA High School will now compete at Globals in Knoxville, TN in May.
Carman Elementary’s team got the highest score on the instant challenge portion of the competition and won the Renaissance Award for creativity, placing 6th overall at State.
Kelly-Pharr’s team placed 4th overall and both teams from PSJA High placed 6th making the cut to advance to the national competition.
The DI Program encourages teams of learners to have fun, take risks, focus and frame challenges while incorporating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), the arts and service learning during competitions.
DI participants also learn patience, flexibility, persistence, ethics, respect for others and their ideas, as they collaborate and problem solve as a team, showcasing their solutions during competition.
