Thirty-four people die with COVID-19 complications; 524 people test positive

EDINBURG – As the death toll rises to over 300, Hidalgo County Health Officials reported 34 residents have died due to complications related to COVID-19 and 524 more people tested positive for the virus, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said Monday. The total number of positive cases is 12,787. 

“I offer the deepest sympathies as I grieve with the friends and families who said goodbye to their loved ones today,” said Cortez. “If we collectively stand against this virus by taking the proper precautions, we can help save our neighbors from this horrible disease.  Please continue to Shelter-At-Home, wear facial coverings, and limit mass gatherings.”

There are 7,203 net active cases and 108 people were released from isolation on Monday meaning that they have been symptom-free for 10 days, including three days without a fever. There are currently 1,024 people hospitalized with complications from the virus; 228 of those cases are being treated in intensive care units.
