The July 2017 U.S. Census Bureau estimates of population have been published. There are 392 Metropolitan statistical areas (MSA’s) in the United States with a combined population of 392,719,178 people. Among these MSA’s are McAllen-Edinburg-Mission, TX and Brownsville-Harlingen, TX. Individually the McAllen MSA has a population of 860,661 and ranks 69th and Brownsville has a population of 423,725 and ranks 131st.

However, as Aristotle once said, “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” In this case, the two MSA’s combined total population of 1,284,386 and ranks 49th nationally and this does not include the populations of Starr and Willacy Counties. To my knowledge, this is the first time combined Valley region has broken into the top 50 MSA’s in America.

If your business depends on influencing buyers, sellers, renters are consumers who are focused only on locations in the top 50 MSA’s, then you now have a new marketing tool in your toolkit. This message was sent by Michael J. Blum, Partner & Managing Broker for NAI RIO GRANDE VALLEY
