Texas Border Business
While the path of Hurricane Beryl is still not confirmed, the American Red Cross encourages everyone along the Gulf Coast to Make a Plan, Build a Kit and Stay Informed. The Red Cross urges everyone who lives in hurricane-prone areas to plan now for any dangerous storms that may threaten this year.
PREPARE
Before a storm hits, listen to local area radio, NOAA radio or TV stations for the latest information and updates. Be prepared to evacuate quickly and know your routes and destinations. Find a local emergency shelter. Check your emergency kit and replenish any items missing or in short supply, especially medications or other medical supplies. Keep it nearby.
Additionally, it’s a good idea to fill plastic bottles with clean drinking water, fill your car’s gas tank and turn off propane tanks and unplug small appliances. For more information about what to do before, during and after a tropical storm or hurricane, visit redcross.org/hurricane.
Download the free Red Cross First Aid app so you’ll know what to do if emergency help is delayed and the free Emergency app for weather alerts, open Red Cross shelter locations and safety steps for different emergencies. RESPOND
The Red Cross is preparing to help communities, while continuing to keep the health and safety of our community and workforce top of mind.
The Red Cross is prepositioning our supplies across the region to best serve potentially impacted communities. We are working to set up sheltering options in the event members of the community are displaced. Should the need for sheltering arise, our teams are prepared to open up and serve those impacted. We are working closely with our government and community partners to anticipate and meet community needs.
RECOVER
If the storm impacts our communities, the Red Cross will be there to serve those in need. Immediately after the storm moves through the Red Cross will focus on sheltering. Our teams will then go into the field and conduct disaster assessment to determine the impact the storm left. We will work with those who have been impacted to determine how we can help them start their recovery process. Our Caseworkers will visit with each family individually to identity their barriers and needs to help them get back on their feet. The Red Cross will be in the impacted communities and serving as long as the need is there.
