The Rio Grande Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization (RGVMPO) has made a remarkable contribution of an additional $2.44 million, a substantial increase to the previously earmarked $9.45 million, for the Liberty Road Expansion Project. This financial boost is further augmented by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), which has allocated an additional $2.46 million towards the project. This collective effort underlines a strong commitment to infrastructure development and economic growth in west Hidalgo County.
Hidalgo County Commissioner Precinct 3 Everardo “Ever” Villarreal, the pillar of the project, expressed his enthusiasm for this funding increase, recognizing it as a pivotal step towards realizing the vision for economic growth and improved mobility in the region. The Liberty Road Expansion Project is more than just an infrastructure development; it’s a catalyst for a prosperous future in west Hidalgo County.
Texas Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa echoed these sentiments, acknowledging the leadership and determination of Commissioner Villarreal in securing the funding. He highlighted the significance of this project for the City of Peñitas and the western part of Hidalgo County, which are experiencing rapid growth.
