The Rio Grande Valley has had families with great hearts. People that are always ready and eager to help others with no hesitation. Every time I have a chance to write and document about them, I don’t distract one second, in order to capture the story right for the present and future generations to read, learn and emulate.

Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District and the City Edinburg dedicated a new sports complex on Feb. 22, 2019, in honor of Janet Ogden Vackar, a businesswoman and philanthropist. Janet is part of the Bert Ogden Auto Group, a conglomerate of dealerships in the Rio Grande Valley.

Hundreds of students, parents, administrators and community leaders attended the grand opening for the Janet Ogden Vackar Sports Complex, located between Eisenhower Elementary School and Memorial Middle School at 3405 N. Doolittle Road in northeast Edinburg.

Mrs. Vackar is humbled and so thankful for the city and school district’s recognition of all of her charitable acts benefiting the children of this great community over the years. Dale Gas everyone welcomed.”

On another matter, Leadership Mid Valley Class XIV participated in Rio Grande Valley Day at the State Capitol in February, as part of the delegation led by the RGV Partnership and Lower RGV Development Council.  The next day, Leadership Mid Valley was hosted by the office of State Representative Armando Martinez as part of the annual LMV Class trip to Austin. Every year, Leadership Mid Valley visits the Capitol to meet with legislators, lobbyists, and heads of state departments to learn about the current projects and issues affecting the region as well as the entire state.
