McAllen, TX- The International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) is excited to present Brain Day on Saturday, March 24, 2018 from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. Now in its 3rd year, Dr. Grant Benham, Professor of Psychology at UTRGV, will assist in coordinating the event with UTRGV faculty and students presenting brain games, and leading hands-on activities that explore how the brain operates by evoking the five senses. Visitors are also encouraged to learn about the anatomy of a brain by creating their own brain out of slime and constructing a brain hemisphere hat.

UTRGV marketing students will be demonstrating EEG devices, which monitor electrophysiological activity, for visitors to see their own brainwaves. UTRGV Psychology students will display their research posters for public viewing. Visitors will be also be able to explore the latest psychological science research with presentations by UTRGV faculty. The presentation topics include sleep paralysis, stress responses, eye movement, and brain imaging.

IMAS educators will lead visitors in an optical art activity and share about the framework of optical illusions. The National Federation of the Blind RGV, will also present a program about other senses which help communicate information to the brain. Brain Day offers an engaging way for the public to understand the dynamics of the brain and the role psychology plays in our everyday lives.
