The Boys and Girls Club of Pharr has been providing youth and teens of Pharr and surrounding communities with a Heroic Adventure this summer. The organization’s program for Summer 2019 brings daily excitement and positivity to members at the three club sites; Main Unit, South Pharr, and San Juan. A collective 1,000 youth and teens registered for summer 2019 to enjoy the diverse activities led by trained, caring staff.

Each day is different from the last, but the goal of the club is always positive youth development. The Summer program is made up of activities focusing on education, health & physical fitness, the arts, socializing, and friendly games, all completed with a balanced breakfast and lunch. Special events and visitors are hosted to inform members on important topics such as safety, environmental health, and fire prevention. The Pharr Police Department and Pharr Fire Department have been among some of the favorites with their interactive and educational presentations. The Club organizes weekly field trips to cool destinations such as the International Museum of Arts & Sciences, the movie theatre, Gatti’s, the Pharr Aquatic Center, and Flamingo Bowl. Whether kids are being active at the club or venturing out for a fun experience, the program is truly an adventure of learning and growth.

The Heroic theme of the season is inspiring kids to acknowledge the superheroes in their own lives, and encouraging them to find their superhero within. The Boys and Girls Club of Pharr is encouraging youth & teens to be powerful by exuding courage, kindness, and acceptance. Frequent class sessions are implemented to recognize brave qualities and put them into practice with others. A favorite is “the superhero pose” where kids are prompted to stand boldly as a hero, which has been proven to be successful in reflecting the strength one feels on the inside.
