PHARR, TX – The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley has received a $10,000 donation from Gujarati Samaj of the Rio Grande Valley to help support the Food Bank RGV’s Coronavirus Resource Readiness and Response campaign. This gift will enable the Food Bank RGV to provide up to 50,000 healthy and nutritious meals for those impacted by COVID-19 in the Rio Grande Valley.
The Food Bank RGV has experienced a 233% increase in the amount of clients served since the beginning of the COVID-19 global pandemic. Donations received have sustained the Food Bank RGV efforts to continue supporting their partner agencies across the Rio Grande Valley with food for clients. To provide additional aid to the community, the Food Bank RGV has also added “pop up” mobile produce distributions throughout various communities and food deserts, an on-site Drive-thru Emergency Pantry (DTEP) for the general public on Tuesdays from 9 am -11 am or until capacity is reached and a designated day just for senior citizens 60 and older on Thursdays from 9 am – 11 am or until capacity is reached.
