PHARR, Texas – The Food Bank RGV is experiencing a critical food shortage at its distribution center and is calling on the community for urgent support. To ensure families in need continue to receive essential food assistance, the organization is asking for donations of nonperishable food items or monetary contributions to help replenish its shelves.
“We are requesting monetary donations and donations of new and unexpired nonperishable foods so that we can restock our shelves,” said Libby Saenz, CEO of Food Bank RGV. “Foods we are needing include canned meats like tuna, salmon, chicken; pastas, rice, peanut butter, soups, individual easy open snacks and meals; instant potatoes, spaghetti sauce, canned vegetables, and dry beans.”
With summer approaching, the Food Bank RGV is especially concerned about the impact on local children, as childhood hunger does not take a break when school is out.
“It’s about feeding families, seniors, veterans, and the unhoused,” Libby Saenz said. “And making sure we are prepared for the future.”
Community members, businesses, and organizations are encouraged to provide monetary contributions, donate food, or host food drives to help meet the growing demand. Food donations may be dropped off at the Food Bank RGV, located at 724 N. Cage Blvd. in Pharr, TX. Monetary donations, which allow the Food Bank RGV to purchase food in bulk, can be made online at foodbankrgv.com.
