PHARR, Texas – The Food Bank RGV has been named a 2025 Impact Grant awardee from the Maximus Foundation and will receive a multi-year $150,000 grant to deepen our impact and scale our solutions in the fight against food insecurity.
The Maximus Foundation was created in 2000 and has awarded more than $17 million in grants to non-profits over the past quarter-century, focusing on society’s toughest challenges from housing insecurity to healthcare access. In 2025, Maximus Foundation will award grants up to $2 million to fuel long-term impact and this year’s giving prioritizes food insecurity and access.
“The Maximus Foundation is proud to award the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley a Maximus Foundation Impact Grant in recognition of their commitment to addressing food insecurity and nourishing communities,” said Dr. Arvenita Washington Cherry, Maximus Foundation President and Chairperson. “Their work helps ensure that individuals and families have reliable access to nutritious, culturally meaningful food—a fundamental need that allows for health, dignity, and opportunity. We’re honored to help support the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley in their mission to feed hope and fuel resilience.”
As the only food bank in the Rio Grande Valley, the Food Bank RGV serves as the backbone of regional hunger relief response. Nearly four decades of providing food assistance in the community has taught the organization that a meaningful response to mitigating hunger in an area of high need requires expanding collaboration beyond food pantries and soup kitchens. Its Resource Center model embodies this approach by bringing together human services, local government, housing authorities, education, and health care organizations to address the interconnected causes of hunger and poverty through emergency food resources, supportive services, and active referrals.
“The Maximus Foundation’s partnership will allow us to strengthen and expand our Resource Center model, which connects families not only to food but to the tools and support needed for
long-term stability,” said Libby A. Saenz, Chief Executive Officer of the Food Bank RGV. “This investment will help us continue building a stronger, healthier Rio Grande Valley where every family has access to the resources they need to thrive.”
Funded by Maximus and its staff, the Foundation’s support reaches across the country, driven by an unwavering belief that lasting change is built through trust, collaboration, and sustained support of community-led solutions.
Additionally, 50 nonprofits addressing a range of topics such as reducing homelessness, inspiring youth potential, and promoting healthcare access will each receive $10,000 grants to advance community-driven solutions.
