Laredo College is recognized for its state-of-the-art facilities in the two-campus district. As it continues expanding, our institution offers innovative programs at our South Campus, such as Culinary Arts and Child Development.

Anyone that loves the culinary world and makes it their career needs to immerse themselves in the quality learning that Laredo College offers. LC has developed a well-versed career path in culinary arts for those who register for the Associate of Arts in Culinary Arts program or the one-year certification program.

LC faculty have unmatched credentials, and students will obtain valuable instruction from master chefs that will lead students to successful careers. Their expertise prepares students to develop foundational kitchen techniques, regional and international cuisine, knife skills, nutrition, gardening and harvesting skills, food safety, sanitation, hospitality management, planning and preparation. Students are then exposed to world-class training by completing internships in local restaurants and hotels.

Students who complete the degree and pass the nationally recognized food handlers certification graduate having a five-year National Restaurant Association Serv Safe Manager Certification. This unique preparation offers students many career options in the food industry, earning up to $48,697 a year. Graduates can become head, sous, pastry, or private chefs; they can also pursue a career in hospitality and management.

Registration is underway for this and many other programs held at the LC South Campus. This campus offers superior culinary degrees and a wide variety of workforce programs such as Child Development.

Interested individuals in early childhood education may register for the Associate of Arts in Child Development program or the one-year certification program. Quality care positively impacts the lives of countless children and their families. Hence, Laredo College has developed a rewarding program designed for those interested in a career in early childhood education.

LC’s Child Development Program trains students to support children and young learners as they grow. Enrolled students will be prepared for the practical demands of the workforce, gain communication skills, critical thinking and appropriate practices for children. Students develop these skills through lectures, projects and hands-on learning experiences. In addition, they participate with the Webb County Head Start Program offering direct training in a variety of settings.

This program is structured around the standards set by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the State Board for Educator’s Certification Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities Standards and the Child Development National Credential Program. Accredited schools meet high standards for educating students with courses that build future teacher assistants, teachers and directors. Upon graduation, these professionals may earn up to $31,930 a year.

These affordable fast-growing occupations seek to develop the economy of our community. Therefore, our college emphasizes the expansion of short-term programs in high demand that offer quality resources to graduate competitive individuals.
