HARLINGEN – Texas State Technical College President Dr. Cesar Maldonado was elected to the Texas Tech Industrial Engineering Academy, Dr. Hong-Chao Zhang, interim Department Chair for Industrial Engineering at Texas Tech University, announced on Thursday.
“I’m very honored to receive this recognition,” Maldonado said. “I am certain that recent success in transforming education systems at TSTC contributed to this achievement. This award acknowledges that much can be accomplished when working with great teams, such as that at our college.”
Maldonado was nominated by Dr. Michael Larranga, Department Chair for Fire Protection and Safety at Oklahoma State University. Larranga said Maldonado’s achievements as an engineer and civic and business leader made him an obvious choice.
“I nominated Dr. Maldonado due to his outstanding positive impact in business, higher education, and civic affairs,” Larranga said. “Dr. Maldonado’s ability to move across traditional boundaries and influence to make positive differences in people’s lives is commendable. Dr. Maldonado will be a fantastic addition to Texas Tech University’s Industrial Engineering Academy.”
The Texas Tech Industrial Engineering Academy was established in 1991 by the Department of Industrial Engineering at Texas Tech University to recognize outstanding graduates of the department or other individuals who have distinguished themselves in service to the department. Membership qualifications are purposefully broad allowing recognition of outstanding contributions in industry, education, government or any other organization.
“This is a fitting honor for Dr. Maldonado, an outstanding leader and community advocate,” said Mike Reeser, Chancellor of the TSTC System.
Maldonado is a 2008 graduate from Texas Tech University with a Ph.D. degree in Systems and Engineering Management. He also graduated from Texas A&M University, receiving Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science degrees in Chemical Engineering in 1974 and 1976, respectively.
