October 24, 2018 – Sen. Ted Cruz and John Cornyn are condemning what appears to be the attempted bombing of major U.S political figures, including former president Barack Obama and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton.

“Violence is never OK,” wrote Cruz on Twitter. “Reports of bombs sent to the homes of Obama, Clinton, and Soros are deeply, deeply disturbing.”

“America is better than this,” he continued. “Political disagreements are fine, even healthy, but we should always be civil and respect each other’s humanity.”

On Wednesday, the U.S. Secret Service announced that it had intercepted a bomb shipped to Clinton and a possible explosive sent to Obama.

The Secret Service announcement made national headlines around the same time a police bomb squad investigated a suspicious package sent to CNN’s New York City bureau.

Florida police also confirmed Wednesday that they were investigating a suspicious package sent to U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a DemocratĀ and a former chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee.

The series of bomb threats come two days after an explosive device was mailed to George Soros, a well-known billionaire, and political donor.

In a statement to reporters in Dallas, Sen. John Cornyn said the attempted bombings were “very dangerous.”

“Anybody who is in the public eye, and certainly political figures, are under threat, but this is not the way we resolve our differences in America,” Cornyn said. “I think it’s frightening a lot of people and understandably so, but I know that law enforcement is doing everything they can to prevent one of these devices from exploding. But it is very serious.”

“I would encourage people generally to be vigilant, and if you see something that looks out of order, say something,” Cornyn said. “Call law enforcement. Better to be safe than sorry.”
