AUSTIN, Texas – The Senate Nominations Committee recently reviewed Governor Greg Abbott’s nomination of Alex Meade for a position on the Texas Transportation Commission. On March 21, 2023, Governor Abbott appointed Meade, a Mission resident, to serve as one of the five Commissioners overseeing the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). The Commissioners’ responsibilities include crafting policies for the state’s highway system, creating a statewide transportation plan, supporting public transportation development, and establishing rules for TxDOT’s operations.
Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, who represents Meade’s hometown, had to agree with Governor Abbott’s recommendation before introducing Meade at the Senate Confirmation hearing. Over the past three weeks, Meade has been meeting with Nominations Committee members and other Senators and Representatives responsible for overseeing TxDOT to gain support for his confirmation.
Senator Hinojosa issued the following statement:
“It was an honor to introduce Alex Meade to the Senate Nominations Committee today. In the past three weeks, Alex has met with my Senate colleagues, and the feedback regarding his appointment to the Texas Transportation Commission has been overwhelmingly positive. There’s no doubt that his experience in both public and private sectors has prepared him well for this role. Today’s hearing marks another step toward final confirmation from the full Senate. I am confident that Alex will be fully confirmed before the Texas Transportation Commission’s next meeting on April 27th.”
