Due to the coronavirus crisis, the IRS has postponed the April 15 federal tax filing deadline to July 15. In addition, the IRS will be sending out economic impact payments (also known as the stimulus) authorized by the CARES Act this week.
TRLA’s Texas Taxpayer Assistance Project is ready to support low-income people in Texas and will be available to answer questions on tax return deadlines, the economic impact payment, fraud attempts, dependents, and more during a Facebook Live event this Wednesday, April 15 in English at 12pm CST and in Spanish at 12:30pm CST. Those who want to submit questions may post their questions in the comments on TRLA’s Facebook page. No legal advice will be given during the session.
TRLA is developing extensive resources specific to these issues, which can be found at https://www.trla.org/covid-19-income-taxes-and-stimulus-payments. TRLA attorneys are available to speak to the media to provide accurate and timely information on the services available to people facing a variety of personal and financial crises created – or worsened – by the pandemic.
