The 29th Annual Texas Onion Fest is scheduled for Saturday, March 24 to be held at Mayor Pablo Pena City Park. This year’s event promises all of the great live entertainment, food and attractions that Valley families and Winter Texans have grown to love and look forward to.
The Texas Onion Fest celebrates the development of the world famous Texas 1015 Onion which was developed in Weslaco, Texas at the Texas A&M University Extension Service. The name of the 1015 onion came from the suggested planting date, October 15. The festival brings the community together for a fun filled day of family entertainment. The festival is just one of the many attractions Weslaco has to offer, and reminds the community of Weslaco’s agricultural achievement.
Live entertainment is scheduled all day, as attendees will enjoy the sounds of oldies, country, mariachi, and Tejano. The Main Stage will feature acts including Mariachi Mariposa, Chris Marshall, Beatriz Gonzalez and headliners Lucky Joe and Buck n Crazy. The famous Onion Eating contest takes place at noon, featuring the Weslaco and Texas Onion Fest pageant courts.
Always a crowd favorite, Rancho Caballo de Puro Raza Azteca will be performing two shows at the Charro Arena, featuring dancing horses.
