McALLEN, Texas – The McAllen Housing Authority (McAHA) received three awards from the organization Texas National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) at their April annual conference in Corpus Christi, TX.
The following awards were presented: 2023 Commissioner of the Year was awarded to McAHA’s Vice-Chair Elva Cerda, the 2023 Member of the Year was awarded to McAHA’s Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Director Elena Saucedo and McAHA also received the 2023 Media Recognition Category B.
McAHA is a member of Texas NAHRO, an advocate of Affordable Housing in Texas that stands for providing adequate and safe housing to low- and moderate-income families through their work of development, redevelopment, conservation, and rehabilitation activities.
Board Vice-Chair Elva M. Cerda received the 2023 Commissioner of the Year Award which recognizes her commitment to the McAHA where she has served on the Board of Commissioners since 2015. Cerda has been instrumental in assisting the agency with the oversight of the new maintenance building, enhancing our financial reporting, expanding the scholarship program for our graduates among many other contributions. Her accessibility and willingness to provide her guidance when needed is deeply appreciated. Cerda has previously served on the board of Affordable Homes of South Texas Inc. for over 16 years where she was also President of the Board, is Emeritus Board member of the Rio Grande Valley Builders Association and has uplifted the community and McAHA families through her numerous contributions in community service.
HCV Director Elena Saucedo received the 2023 Member of the Year Award which recognizes her dedication to McAHA for more than 30 years of continued work. She is a pillar of the organization and is admired for her accomplishments. The 2023 Media Recognition Category B Award highlights McAHA’s 2022 Home is Where the Heart is 5k, which was featured in a local newspaper. This joint effort with Affordable Homes of South Texas, Inc (AHSTI) is a fundraising opportunity for educational advancement and professional development for McAHA residents.
