Texans 50 and older will be eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine beginning Monday, March 15, state health officials said. The announcement means that vaccine availability is ramping up across the state. However, appointments may still be hard to find, as the number of eligible recipients outnumbers the vaccine supply. In total, about 8.5% of the Texas population has been fully vaccinated. State health officials estimate that the vaccine will be available for everyone in the general public later this spring.Â
Concerns remain about equitable access to the vaccine. State Sen. Borris Miles, D-Houston, expressed frustration with the low vaccination rate in communities of color that have been disproportionately impacted by the coronavirus. Read the full story by Shawn Mulcahy.
