AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas House Democratic Campaign Committee today announced that Rep. Christina Morales (D-Houston) will serve as chair ahead of the 2026 election cycle. Rep. Morales, a third-generation small business owner who has represented House District 145 since 2019, brings decades of experience building community institutions and a commitment to accountability, transparency, and results-driven strategy.

Rep. Morales takes the helm as HDCC at a moment when Texas is on the verge of a political shift. For the first time in years, Democrats will field candidates in all 150 Texas House districts, and today, the national DLCC announced that the Texas House would return to its target map for the first time in years. Under her leadership, HDCC will prioritize openness, collaboration, and smart, results-driven strategy as Democrats prepare for major opportunities in 2026.

“For nearly a century, my family has served East Houston by building institutions that last,” said Rep. Christina Morales, HDCC Chair. “That same approach will guide my vision for HDCC: invest in what works, measure our results, and build something that outlasts any one election. I’m honored to serve in this role at such an important time for our state — Texans are ready for change, and we have more Democratic voters than ever before. If we stay focused and work together, we will turn that energy into real wins.”

Rep. Morales has fought for Texas families throughout her tenure in the Legislature, including joining fellow Democrats in the historic August 2025 quorum break to oppose Trump’s redistricting power grab. Her deep roots in Houston’s East End and her experience running a successful multi-generational family business give her unique insight into the challenges facing working Texans.

“Christina Morales represents everything House Democrats need in a campaign leader: accountability, inclusion, and a relentless focus on delivering results,” said Texas House Minority Leader Rep. Gene Wu. “She’s built community institutions, has fought for her constituents against the most extreme Republican attacks, and she brings a business owner’s discipline to every dollar spent. With the exceptionally qualified Rep. Morales leading HDCC, our candidates and voters will have the support and infrastructure they need to win.”
