EDINBURG – The Texas Homeowner Assistance Fund Program was launched as a pilot program in Hidalgo County on January 10, 2022, with a goal to assist homeowners with payment on delinquent property taxes.

“As of today, the Hidalgo County Tax Office has received over $1 million from the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) for payment towards delinquent property taxes,” said Hidalgo County Tax Assessor-Collector Pablo “Paul” Villarreal Jr.

Delinquent property tax relief is available to qualifying homeowners who experienced financial hardships because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Villarreal encourages Hidalgo County Homeowners who are delinquent on their primary homestead residence to apply for assistance on their property taxes.
