AUSTIN, TX – Texas Governor Greg Abbott will be the keynote speaker at Texas State Technical College’s 50th Anniversary Celebration – a fundraiser honoring some of the College’s greatest advocates – to be held in Austin on Wednesday, April 22, at the Hilton Austin.

Joining the Governor as emcee will be former Texas State Comptroller Susan B. Combs.

“This is a testament to the great work that TSTC is doing for this state.  We are proud and honored these elected officials have agreed to take time from their busy schedules to join Texas legislators, business and community leaders in Austin celebrating TSTC’s Golden Anniversary,” said TSTC Chancellor Michael L. Reeser.

Brazos Higher Education Service Corporation and Breckenridge Community Leaders are Founders Level Sponsors of the dinner event. All proceeds raised will benefit The TSTC Foundation and support student and instructional needs statewide.

Sponsorships are available at the $25,000 Founders Level, which includes ten tickets to a private VIP reception with honored guests before the event, and two preferred seating tables of ten at the event. Additional sponsorship levels include the $10,000 Benefactor Level and $5,000 Investor Level, each with their own number of VIP tickets and seats at the dinner.

The deadline to reserve tables and purchase tickets for this fundraising event is April 10, although seating is limited.  For more information, call The TSTC Foundation at 254-867-2038.

TSTC was established in 1965 as the James Connally Technical Institute of Texas A&M University in Waco to meet the state’s evolving workforce needs. In 1967, it expanded to include a South Texas campus in Harlingen.  In 1969, the College separated from Texas A&M and became an independent technical college system.  Today, TSTC has 11 campuses in Abilene, Breckenridge, Brownwood, Fort Bend County, Harlingen, Ingleside, Marshall, Red Oak, Sweetwater, Waco and Williamson County.

TSTC is the only college in Texas to adopt a funding model based entirely on student employment outcomes – aligning with its purpose of strengthening Texas with a highly skilled, technically competent workforce.

“We’re proud of our many achievements, but we recognize that we had a great deal of help.  That’s why we will be celebrating the individuals and organizations which have brought us to this memorable milestone,” said Reeser.

TSTC will recognize four Founders Award recipients at the 50th Anniversary Celebration, including former State Senator Murray Watson, Jr. of Central Texas; the Honorable R. Temple Dickson, III (awarded posthumously) from West Texas; the City of Harlingen from South Texas; and the Marshall Economic Development Corporation from East Texas.

“The honorees are being recognized for their leadership and contributions since TSTC’s beginning,” said Vice President of Advancement Beth Wooten.  “This fundraiser promises to be one of the state’s premier events of the year.” TBB
