Texas Border Business
The Texas Border Coalition (TBC) will gather on Tuesday, Feb. 19 and Wednesday, Feb. 20, in Austin, for the organization’s winter meeting and TBC Day at the Texas Capitol.
Representatives from dozens of communities along the Texas-Mexico border are expected to attend and engage in frank discussions about the myriad economic development, education, health care, security, transportation and workforce challenges facing border communities.
The TBC quarterly meeting will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the IBC Bank Cesar Chavez Community Suite, 2817 E. Cesar Chavez St.
Presenters include House Border Caucus Chairman Rep. Cesar Blanco, D-El Paso, who will discuss what border communities can expect during the 86th Legislature, and Chandra Villanueva of the Center for Public Policy Priorities, who will provide a public school finance briefing, covering how Texas currently funds our schools, the challenges of the current system, where the discussion is now at the Legislature, and recommendations for improving the system.
On Wednesday, Feb. 20, TBC members will participate in TBC Day at the Texas Capitol.
TBC members will be recognized by the Texas House of Representatives at 10 a.m. in the House chamber. The Texas Senate will recognize TBC members at 11 a.m. in the Senate chamber.
Members also will attend small-group office visits with border delegation lawmakers and other allies to educate them about TBC’s policy priorities and the needs of border communities.
