AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Association of Business (TAB), launched the Mexico Trade and Investment Policy Council to help private sector executives and policy makers understand and navigate the complex dynamics of the Texas-Mexico business relationship. TAB Vice President of International Affairs, David Zapata, will serve as the Council’s Executive Director.

Zapata comes to TAB from the Office of the Texas Secretary of State where he served as Assistant Secretary of State for Mexican & Border Affairs. His deep understanding of trade and investment, in addition to excellent relations with binational stakeholders, will serve the Council well.

Working alongside Zapata is former Texas Secretary of State and Chair of TAB’s International Trade and Commerce Committee, Rolando Pablos, as well as TAB Board Vice Chairman, Massey Villarreal.

“The experience and policy knowledge of this team will be instrumental in achieving the Council’s vision and goals,” TAB CEO Glenn Hamer said. “With their leadership, TAB is well-positioned to help both private and public sector entities looking to expand business with Mexico.”

TAB recognizes that Mexico is far and away Texas’ largest trading partner. Hundreds of Mexican companies invest in Texas, creating jobs and contributing to our booming economy. Likewise, there are many Texas companies doing the same in Mexico. The Council seeks to educate policy makers on issues important to our state’s business relationship with Mexico.

“Over a million Texans have steady jobs today thanks to our trade relationship with Mexico. Our intent is to expand this mutual partnership to the benefit of Texas families,” said TAB Board Vice Chairman, Massey Villarreal.

“I am honored to lead this crucial and timely initiative for Texas businesses. I commend the TAB Board and Glenn Hamer for recognizing the need to develop and drive sound business policy related to investment and trade with Mexico,” said Chair of TAB’s International Trade and Commerce Committee, Rolando Pablos.
