Since 1982, each spring tens of thousands of Texas A&M students come together for The Big Event, the largest one-day, student-run community service project in the nation. For the 2025 Big Event, the Texas A&M University Higher Education Center at McAllen (HECM) will bring the annual tradition to the Rio Grande Valley for Aggies to volunteer at both Palm Valley Animal Society locations.

The Big Event is one of Texas A&M University’s most cherished traditions. For the past 43 years, Aggies have participated at this event to complete service projects to show appreciation to their community, such as planting trees at local parks, packaging dried goods at a food bank and painting for residents. This year, students from the Texas A&M University Higher Education Center at McAllen and local Texas A&M former students will come together for the annual event to perform cleaning and enrichment activities for animals in need at the Palm Valley Animal Society.
