The Texas A&M College of Agriculture and Life Sciences will host a series of student receptions across Texas beginning Jan. 21 as part of its annual AGLS on Tour program, bringing the College directly to prospective and admitted students and their families. The AGLS tour will make a stop in McAllen Feb. 7 from 2-4 p.m. at Texas A&M Higher Education Center at McAllen.

Running through March 1, the come-and-go receptions will take place in six cities across the state, providing students interested in agriculture and life sciences the opportunity to meet faculty, staff and current students while learning more about academic programs, campus life and career preparation in the College.

Jeffrey W. Savell, Ph.D., vice chancellor and dean for Agriculture and Life Sciences, said the events help students and families better understand what distinguishes the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

“Choosing where to go for college is a big decision, and AGLS on Tour gives students and families the chance to explore their options close to home,” Savell said. “They can talk directly with faculty and current students, learn about majors and career paths, and get a clearer picture of what life in our College is really like.”
What is AGLS on Tour?
Now in its third year, AGLS on Tour is a student outreach initiative launched in 2024 under Savell’s leadership.
Each stop features a casual, come-and-go reception open to prospective and admitted students and their families and introduces them to opportunities across the College’s 15 departments.
Robert Sturdivant, program coordinator for student development in the College, said the tour helps students better understand what life as an Aggie looks like beyond the classroom.

“These receptions allow students to explore their interests, learn about academic pathways and understand how an AGLS degree can support their long-term goals,” Sturdivant said.
Through conversations with faculty and college leadership and personal insights from current students, AGLS on Tour provides students with a firsthand look at the College’s academic environment, support network and commitment to student success.
With support from the College of Agriculture Development Council, admitted students who attend an AGLS on Tour event may be eligible to receive a competitive academic scholarship. Light refreshments will also be provided at each event.
