PHARR, Texas – The Terracon Foundation announced a $5,000 university grant to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) to support full-time, master’s-level engineering students to relieve some of the financial burden of college for them and their families.
UTRGV was created by the Texas legislature in 2013 as the state’s first new major public university of the 21st century. In fall 2020, the university had more than 32,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled, offering 58 master’s- and doctoral-level programs with 16 degrees in STEM areas.
“Many civil engineering students are supported as graduate research or teaching assistants or receive support from other scholarship programs,” said Stephanie Cardoza, client development manager in Terracon’s Pharr office who championed the grant. “This grant will be allocated to students with financial need. We are looking to help students graduate on schedule as some are delayed due to funding challenges.”
To date, the Terracon Foundation has granted more than $3 million to community organizations, universities, dependents of employees, and for disaster relief efforts.
