EDINBURG – The Western Athletic Conference announced on Wednesday that sophomore Tennoshin Ogawa of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men’s golf team has been named WAC Golfer of the Week.
Ogawa carded a career-best three-under 213 as he was crowned co-champion at the LaTour Intercollegiate. It’s the first collegiate championship for Ogawa as he helped UTRGV win its second straight tournament.
Ogawa opened the LaTour Intercollegiate with a one-over-par 73 before going low in the second round with a career-best four-under 68. He entered the final round just one shot back of the lead and closed out the tournament with an even-par 72, which included a birdie on the par-three 17th that helped him take the lead.
This is the second WAC Golfer of the Week honor in Ogawa’s career. Ogawa is the fourth to win an individual champion for UTRGV since the start of the spring semester in 2018.
UTRGV will be looking for its third straight win when it tees it up at the Colin Montgomerie Intercollegiate starting on February 25.
