The Texas City Managers Association (TCMA) has elected Roel “Roy” Rodriguez, P.E. as the TCMA Region 10 President for a two-year term. As president he will oversee Region 10 by chairing meetings, tasking committees with assignments, gathering reports, and attending TCMA meetings.
Region 10 consists of the following south Texas counties: Brooks, Cameron, Hidalgo, Jim Hogg, Kenedy, Starr, Willacy and Zapata.
Rodriguez has consistently embodied the highest standards of governance, service, leadership and ethics. He is highly regarded for his visionary leadership and enthusiasm for building strong teams. This is especially evident whenever Rodriguez reaches out to other communities to offer support, share ideas and promote the profession of city management.
Rodriguez has a career that spans over 35 years in state and municipal government, receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2023 TCMA Professional Awards, which recognizes city management professionals who have made significant contributions to the field of local government management for more than 20 years. He was also recognized by TCMA as the Administrator of the Year (City Manager of the Year) in 2017.
“What impresses me most about City Manager Rodriguez is that his management and mentorship style help make everyone around him better because he believes in their talent and skills,” said McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos. “He is able to motivate others around them and help them to serve their communities better.”
Rodriguez was nominated by TCMA Region 10, the region to which the City of McAllen is a part of through the Texas Municipal League (TML).
