RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men’s basketball team learned on Monday that freshman forward RayQuan Taylor is the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Week after leading the Vaqueros to a 1-1 week.

Taylor posted his second double-double with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting, 15 rebounds, including a career-high six offensive rebounds, and two blocks at Abilene Christian on Saturday.

Taylor now has two games of at least 15 rebounds, both of which have come on the road. Taylor is the only freshman in the NCAA to have multiple games of 15+ rebounds on the road this season. Additionally, Taylor is one of only 14 players in the NCAA and two in the WAC to post multiple 15+ rebound game on the road this season.

Overall, including a home win over Lamar on Wednesday, Taylor averaged 7.0 points on 5-of-9 (55.6%) shooting, 9.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.

For the season, Taylor is averaging 6.7 points on 59.2% shooting, 6.1 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game.

Taylor ranks 129th in the NCAA and sixth in the WAC in offensive rebounds per game (2.45), 244th in the NCAA and sixth in the WAC in total blocks (20), 265th in the NCAA and sixth in the WAC in blocks per game (0.91), 289th in the NCAA and 12th in the WAC in total rebounds (134), and 325th in the NCAA and 12th in the WAC in rebounds per game (6.1).
